PTFL/PTFM Series (Overheat protection)
  1. What is the resistance-temperature characteristic?

Refer to "Data on Resistance-Temperature Characteristic Dispersion".

    Go to TOP

  2. What is the characteristic at temperatures other than the sensing temperature?

Refer to "Data on Resistance-Temperature Characteristic Dispersion" mentioned in item "1" above.

    Go to TOP

  3. What is the thermal resistance of "POSISTOR" with the object to be measured?

The thermal resistance varies depending on the method of mounting "POSISTOR" to the object to be measured. Since a difference occurs between the sensing temperature of the "POSISTOR" element and the temperature of the object to be measured, thoroughly evaluate in consideration of the temperature difference, and then contact us.

  4. Are there any precautions to take when selecting an adhesive agent to fix "POSISTOR" to the object to be measured?

Heat expands and contracts resin, applying stress to the "POSISTOR" element. Therefore, elastic resin (resin with high heat conductivity such as those with silicone) must be used. Thoroughly evaluate whether the adhesive agent can be used, and then contact us.

    Go to TOP

  5. Are these Series products available in taping packaging?

The PTFL Series products are available in 5-mm lead pitch, inside-crimp taping packaging. The PTFM Series products are only available in bulk packaging.

  6. Are there any precautions to take when packaging "POSISTOR" with resin?

Heat expands and contracts resin, applying stress to the "POSISTOR" element. Therefore, elastic resin (resin with high heat conductivity such as those with silicone) must be used. Thoroughly evaluate whether the resin can be used, and then contact us.

    Go to TOP

  7. Are there any precautions to take when soldering "POSISTOR" leads?

The "POSISTOR" element and leads are soldered together. Because of this, solder the leads at a point 5 mm or more away from the lead's root while making sure the soldering iron does not come into contact with the element and the resin-coated section of the leads.

PTGLS Series (Overcurrent protection)
  1. How to select "POSISTOR" for overcurrent protection?

Refer to "How to Select "POSISTOR" for Overcurrent Protection".

    Go to TOP

  2. Though the operating temperature range is specified between -10°C and +60°C, can this range be widened?

When the operating temperature range is widened, the operating current and non-operating current are changed. Therefore, although great care must be taken, the range can be widened. For specifications, contact us.

  3. Are the Series products available in taping packaging?

The Series products are available in taping packaging.

  5. Doesn't "POSISTOR" malfunction due to rush current or surge noise caused when supplying power?

If supplying power is repeated in a short period of time, "POSISTOR" may malfunction due to rush current or surge noise. Thoroughly evaluate whether "POSISTOR" can be used for the application, and then contact us.

    Go to TOP

  6. When current has a special waveform (pulse, etc.), how much are the operating and non-operating currents?

As for current with a special waveform (pulse, etc.), some people think that the operating and non-operating currents should be compared using values converted into root-mean-square values. However, this cannot be used in some cases. For details, contact us.

PRF Series (Overheat protection)
  1. Can this Series products be flow-soldered?

Since we separately offer a variety of types that can be flow-soldered, contact us when necessary.

    Go to TOP

  2. Can this Series products be reflow-soldered twice or more?

When soldering is repeated twice or more, make sure that the accumulated soldering time does not exceed the range shown in the graph below.

    Soldering temperature and time

When soldering is repeated, note that the allowable time is the accumulated soldering time.

  3. What is the characteristic at temperatures other than the sensing temperature?

Refer to "Data on Resistance-Temperature Characteristic Dispersion".

  3. How to select "POSISTOR" for overcurrent protection?

Refer to "How to Select "POSISTOR" for Overcurrent Protection" in the same way as for the PTGL Series.

    Go to TOP

  4. Though the operating temperature range is specified between -10°C and +60°C, can this range be widened?

When the operating temperature range is widened, the operating current and non-operating current are changed. Therefore, although great care must be taken, the range can be widened. For specifications, contact us.

    Go to TOP

  5. Are there any precautions to take when potting "POSISTOR" with resin?

Do not use the potting method to seal "POSISTOR". Since the heat generated from "POSISTOR" diffuses, it does not increase the resistance even when something abnormal has occurred in the circuit, so "POSISTOR" may not operate normally.
