Target (Pulser) |
- Cyclic projections and indentations or changes of magnetization direction are detected without physical contact.

- Pulsers can be roughly categorized into two types: a gear type, where projections and indentations are formed on a magnetic substance; and a magnetic drum type. The first type has outstanding durability, while the second type can be easily designed at high density.
- Low carbon steel is suitable for the soft magnetic gears. The composition and consistency of the material's density must be carefully noted.
- When the pulser is a gear, the operation specifications are determined by the face width, bottom width and depth. When the pulser is a magnetic drum, the operation specifications are determined by the magnetization pitch, magnetic force, and material.

Combination of Pulser and Sensor |
- Mount the sensor on the centerline of the pulser. -> Non-contact detection
Relationship between Sensor Elements and Pulser |
The sensor detects the difference between the projections and indentations (gear) or N and S poles (magnetic pattern) of the pulser.
In the case of a gear, the sensor is designed so that the sensor's element-to-element pitch is one-half the tooth-to-tooth pitch as standard. |
Pulser Detection Mode |
- The sensor is mounted the specified gap from the pulser. When the pulser rotates or moves, the elements detect the change in magnetic flux density caused by the pulser's projections and indentations and the permanent magnet built into the sensor. The sensor converts this change into voltage in the potential divider circuit.
- The output voltage formula is as follows.
Vout = (MR2 x Vin)/(MR1 + MR2)
Output Signal Mode |
- The output waveform is close to an ideal sine wave, and the sensor responds by smoothly relaying the status of the target, from standstill to high-speed motion.
- The 2-phase (A, B) outputs for normal/reverse rotation detection and Z-phase output for reference positioning are accurately packaged into a single enclosure.
